Birthing Center at Mountain Vista Medical Center

If you require a cesarean delivery, we also have surgical suites dedicated to women’s services, so you will be able to deliver your baby in an operating room located right in our Women’s Center.

Many women at Mountain Vista Medical Center now have the option of choosing nitrous oxide for reducing pain and lowering anxiety during childbirth. Nitrous oxide (50% nitrous gas, 50% oxygen) is inhaled through a mask or mouthpiece that the patient holds and self-administers. The effects of the nitrous oxide wear off after just a few breaths without the mask. There is no effect on newborn sucking patterns, breast feeding, fetal heart rate, Apgar scores, or cord blood gases. Additionally, nitrous oxide may be used while standing, sitting or on the birthing ball.

Postpartum
After the delivery, and once your health and your baby’s health is determined to be stable, we will move you into one of our 17 private post-partum rooms. In this room, you will continue to receive the excellent care and personal attention that has brought you this far.

The post-partum rooms at Mountain Vista Medical Center are designed to accommodate rooming-in, a special time when your new family gets to be together. The same post-partum nurse will take care of you and your baby. Educational in-room television programming is available, as well as other amenities to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Nurseries & Special Care
In the event that rooming-in is not possible, your baby will get all of the extra special care he or she needs in our Level II Continuous Care Nursery. As a certified Level II nursery, we have all the necessary equipment, staff, and facilities to provide advanced neonatal care and stabilize infants born after 32 weeks and weighing more than 1500 grams (3 pounds and 5 ounces).

Infant Security
In addition to other security measures, we use a high-tech electronic surveillance system to keep track of each baby. After birth, we place a small monitoring tag around the umbilical cord, where it remains until you take your baby home or until the cord falls off. If the cord falls off while you are at the hospital, a monitoring band will be placed around your baby's ankle. Both bands are completely safe, transmit an electronic signal to a  nursing station and alerts nurses if the baby is ever moved too close to an exit.

Additionally, the Women’s Services department is a secured area, where visitors must be let in by a staff member.

Visitor Policy
We know you will want friends and loved ones to share in your joy when you welcome your new baby to the world. We maintain a family-centered approach and offer open visiting hours and comfortable waiting areas for your guests. Please note, during winter months when flu and RSV is prevalent, children under the age of 12 are not permitted for visitation. This policy is necessary to protect you, your baby, and others.
